Threshold is new music program devised as a collaboration between the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Longform Editions. For the duration of Volume at the the Art Gallery of New South Wales, four world-premiere compositions can be heard at the thresholds of Naala Badu and Naala Nura – the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ north and south buildings.
These newly composed longform pieces of music will hit you at different points across the sonic spectrum as you enter and exit each building, creating new experiences of transition in these unique spaces.
Hear Austrian experimentalist Fennesz, who creates vast emotional currents from guitar-based glitched ambience and drone; Murri artist amby downs, whose eerie place-based sound works traverse dark histories and a reconnection to Country; the meditative thread of Berlin-based Australian dreamweaver Jules Reidy; and a new collaboration between field recording exponents Sydney’s Seaworthy and Perth’s Matt Rösner, created during an artist’s residency program at the Bundanon art museum.
These four pieces of music will all be released by Longform Editions in the near future.
